The formula of the Whirling of the Heart

For the gods are invoked by the whirling of the heart. It is the thumos of mortals that beckons and then awakens within themselves the pathos of the gods. Guided by logos, conceived by thumos and evoked by eros. Behold the formula of the whirling of the heart, that mighty whirlpool of the cosmos. As above so below...

Sokrates on Iakkhos, the Underworld, Dionysos and Reincarnation

Sokrates : But now, since the soul is seen to be immortal, it cannot escape from evil or be saved in any other way than by becoming as good and wise as possible. For the soul takes with it to the other world nothing but its education and nurture, and these are said to benefit or injure the departed greatly from the very beginning of his journey thither. And so it is said that after death, the tutelary daimon of each person, to whom he had been allotted in life, leads him to a place where the dead are gathered together (i.e. the daimon guide is Plato's equivalent of Hermes, guide of the dead); then they are judged and depart to the other world with the guide whose task it is to conduct thither those who come from this world, probably Iakkhos; and when they have there received their due and remained through the time appointed, another guide, probably Dionysos, brings them back after many long periods of time (i.e. they are reincarnated).

Plato, Phaedo 107c ff

The Eleusinian Iakkhos

[The god Dionysos encounters a chorus of Eleusinian initiates in the Underworld on their way to Elysium.]

Chorus [of the shades of Eleusinian initiates in the distance] : O lakkhos! O lakkhos! O Iakkhos!

Xanthias : I have it, master, 'tis those blessed mystics, the souls of those who were initiated into the Mysteries in life, of whom he told us, sporting hereabouts. They sing the Iakkhos which Diagoras made . . .

Chorus : O Iakkhos! power excelling, here in stately temples dwelling. O Iakkhos! O lakkhos! Come to tread this verdant level, come to dance in mystic revel, come whilst round thy forehead hurtles many a wreath of fruitful myrtles, come with wild and saucy paces mingling in our joyous dance, pure and holy, which embraces all the charms of all the Kharites , when the mystic choirs advance. Come, arise, from sleep awaking, come the fiery torches shaking, O Iakkhos! O Iakkhos! Call we now the youthful god Iakkhos, call him hither without delay, him who travels amongst his Chorus, dancing along on the sacred way. O come with the joy of thy festival song, O come to the goddess, O mix with our throng untired, though the journey be never so long. O lord of the frolic and dance, lakkhos, beside me advance! For fun, and for cheapness, our dress thou hast rent, through thee we may dance to the top of our bent, reviling, and jeering, and none will resent. O lord of the frolic and dance, lakkhos, beside me advance! A sweet pretty girl I observed in the show, her robe had been torn in the scuffle, and lo, there peeped through the tatters a bosom of snow. O lord of the frolic and dance, lakkhos, beside me advance!"

Aristophanes, Frogs 316 ff

Manifesto for Occult Traditions - Call for Papers

Within a mundane and simple arena of understanding and experience, the word ‘occult’, which derives from the Latin word ‘occultus’, refers to anything aspiring to knowledge of the hidden, secret and clandestine. However, if one is to dwell deeper into the arcane dialectics of the holy matrimony of the macrocosm and microcosm it becomes apparent, and not always in a logical and pleasant fashion, that more is to be whispered, unveiled and conjured in regards to the occult.

It is therefore my pleasure and honour to invite you to partake in this mystery of occult manifestation of the pure but temporarily obscured pure forces of the cosmos.

Since the dawn of ages men and women have sought a glimpse of occult gnosis within the awesome natural performance of ritual, the slithering flow of the elements, the sensational sounds of the spheres, the iconic form of dreams undreamt and now awoken, the irrational whispering of mystical verse, the silence of contemplation and the passion drenched erotic thirst for life, death and rebirth. Unlike the priesthood of convention and dogmatism, these men and women, the Magos, have been a visible representation of spiritual virility, the human condition and many times the romantic antinomian ethos refusing the dictates of conventional society, morality and metaphysical culture whilst aligning themselves purely with the laws of the pure forces of the cosmos. They employed a multitude of arcane symbols reflecting other dimensions of spiritual rapture; they howled barbarous names of holy and unholy power in the wilderness; they communed with gods and goddesses deep within their own earthly abodes; they conjured angels and demons within and outside geometrical patterns of spiritual authority; they glimpsed into the present reflecting itself through the future and echoing from the past; they have been hunted, praised, deified and condemned to the abyss... yet they are still amongst us, brothers and sisters,  essentially attempting to adapt the Occult to a disenchanted world, a world which no longer harbours a dimension of irreducible mystery based upon an experience of the sacred as present in the daily world, a world that is decadent, materialistic,  mortally egocentric, delusional, imbalanced and suffocated.

Before I present the desired intention of Occult Traditions I believe it is necessary to define what I mean by Tradition by presenting what I conceive as being the most coherent and all-embracing definition written by Julius Evola,

According to its true, living meaning, Tradition is neither servile conformity to what has been, nor a sluggish perpetuation of the past into the present. Tradition, in its essence, is something simultaneously meta-historical and dynamic: it is an overall ordering force, in service of principles that have the chrism of a superior legitimacy.

Within this framework the desired intention of Occult Traditions is to seek out individuals willing to unveil eternal and dynamic occult gems of the magical universe as presented and experienced throughout a vast matrix of occult principles, paths, disciplines and traditions.

Qualitative contributions on all aspects of the occult is an encouraged desire, whether that be a historical, philosophical or practical exploration and presentation. In addition, more irrational literary and visual endeavours are also highly encouraged as precious representations of occult gnosis in the here and now yet reflecting Aion of aions.
If your body, heart and soul desires so and yearns passionately to unveil gems of occult gnosis it would be my pleasure to discuss the ambitions of your epiphany. It would be an even greater pleasure if this discussion could manifest in the flesh but unfortunately we are still overwhelmed by the vastness of the cosmos so therefore for those still far away whisper to me your conceptualised ideas relating to the paper you would like to submit at winegodunbound@yahoo.com
The deadline for the final submission will take place on the 21st of December 2010, however this might be able be extended by a lunar cycle. It would be my pleasure to become aware of your initial concept, title and drafts and soon as possible.

Further details will be made available as they arise through Primordial Traditions.

The Rite of the Blasting of the Veil

Facing the east sacrifice frankincense and recite the following prayer,

Greetings, O lord, you who are the way to receive favour for the universe and for the world in which we dwell.

Heaven has become a place of dancing for you, ΑΡΣΕΝΟΦΡΗ; O king of the heavenly gods,  ΑΒΛΑΝΑΘΑΝΑΛΒΑ; you who possesses righteousness, ΑΚΡΑΜΜΑΧΑΜΑΡΕΙ; gracious god, ΣΑΝΚΑΝΑΘΑΡΑ; ruler of nature, ΣΑΤΡΑΠΕΡΚΜΗΦ; origin of the heavenly realm,  ΑΘΘΑΝΝΟΥ ΑΘΘΑΝΝΟΥ ΑΣΤΡΑΦΑΙ ΙΑΣΤΡΑΦΑΙ ΠΑΚΕΡΤΩΘ ΣΑΒΑΩΘ ΗΡΙΝΤΑΣΚΛΙΟΥΘ ΗΦΙΩ ΜΑΡΜΑΡΑΩ.

Let my ability to speak and command not leave me. Let every god, archangel, angel, spirit, daimon and mortal pay attention to me, for I am Grant to me that which I ask and that which is your will!

Face the east. Stretch out your right hand to your left and your left hand, likewise to the left and chant ΑΑΑΑΑΑΑ. See a portal opening to the east stretching out to infinity.

Face the north. Put forward only your right fist and chant ΕΕΕΕΕΕΕ. See a portal opening to the north stretching out to infinity.

Face the west. Extend both hands in front of you chant ΗΗΗΗΗΗΗ. See a portal opening to the west stretching out to infinity.

Face the south. Hold both hands on your stomach and chant ΙΙΙΙΙΙΙ. See a portal opening to the south stretching out to infinity.

Face the east or stand at the bomos facing the east. Bend over touching the ends of your toes and chant ΟΟΟΟΟΟΟ. See a portal opening to the depths of the earth. Feel grounded and stable.

Place both your hands on your heart and gaze into the air and chant ΥΥΥΥΥΥΥ. See a portal opening in the air.

Place both hands on your head, look up to the heavens and chant ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ. See a portal opening to the cosmos, stretching out to infinity and connecting you with the depths of the universe.

Recite,

I call upon you, who are greater than all, the creator of all, you, the self-begotten, who see all and are not seen; for you gave Helios the glory and all the power, Selene the privilege to wax and wane and have fixed courses, yet you took nothing from the earlier-born darkness, but apportioned things so that they would be equal; for when you appeared, both order arose and light appeared. All things are subject to you, whose true form none of the gods can see; who can change into all forms. You are invisible, Aion of aions!

I call upon you, eternal and unbegotten, who are one, who alone hold together the whole creation of all things, whom none understands, whom the gods worship, whose name not even the gods can utter. Inspire from your exhalation, ruler of the pole, him who is under you...[1].

Create a vortex of energeia, quickly. I call on your name, the greatest among gods. Open, open, four quarters of the cosmos, for the lord of the inhabited world comes forth. Archangels, decans, angels rejoice, for Aion of aions himself, the only transcendent, invisible, goes through this place. By the name ΑΙΑ ΑΙΝΡΥΧΑΘ, cast up, earth, for the lord, all things you contain, for he is the storm-sender and controller of the abyss, master of fire.

Visit each portal and recite, Open, for ΑΧΕΒΥΚΡΩΜ commands you!

Having drawn in spirit with all your senses[2] face the east and recite, O gods who in the east. With one breath chant[3] ΩΑΩΗΩΩΕΟΗΙΑΩ.

Face the south and recite, O gods who are in the south. Chant ΙΙΙ.

Face the north and recite, O gods who are in the north. Chant ΑΑΩ.

Turn counter-clockwise until you face the west and recite, O gods who are in the west.ΘΗ. Chant

Turn counter-clockwise to the south and kneel on your right knee. Stand, and keep rotating counter-clockwise until the east is again faced or you are standing at the bomos facing the east.

Look down at the earth and recite, O gods who are in the earth. Chant ΘΟΥ.

Look up into the air and see the moon. Recite, O gods who are in the sub-lunar realms.ΘΗ. Chant

Look up into the air and see the water. Recite, O gods who are in the primeval waters. Chant ΑΑΘΩ.

Look up to the heavens and see the cosmos. Recite, O gods who are in the heavens. Chant ΑΘΗΡΟΥΟ.

[1] You are to state the nature of the ritual space intended.
[2] The energy must be felt as tangible – it should be seen, heard, felt, smelt and tasted.
[3] Whilst chanting all portals should be visualised as closing.

Orphic Hymn to the Nereids

Daughters of Nereus, resident in caves
Merged deep in ocean, sporting through the waves;
Fanatic fifty nymphs, who through the main
Delight to follow in the Triton's train,
Rejoicing close behind their cars to keep;
Whose forms half wild, are nourished by the deep,
With other nymphs of different degree
Leaping and wandering through the liquid sea:
Bright, watery dolphins, sonorous and gay,
Well pleased to sport with bachanalian play;
Nymphs beauteous-eyed, whom sacrifice delights,
Send rich abundance on our mystic rites;
For you at first disclosed the rites divine,
Of holy Bakkhos and of Proserpine,
Of fair Kalliope from whom I spring,
And of Apollo bright, the Muse's king.

To conjure the Olympic Spirits...

Recite,

Hail, entire system of aerial spirit, ΦΟΓΩΛΩΑ! Hail, spirit who extends from heaven to earth, ΕΡΔΗΝΕΥ, and who extends from the earth – which is in the middle chamber of the cosmos – unto the very borders of the abyss, ΜΕΡΕΜΩΓΓΑ! Hail all spirits aerial images, ΡΩΜΙΔΟΥΗ ΑΓΑΝΑΣΟΥ ΩΘΑΥΑ! For in heaven, ΠΕΛΗΘΕΥ; O one shining with heavenly light, ΑΔΑΜΑΛΩΡ; O luminous one, ΑΛΑΠΙΕ; O dark-looking one, ΙΕΠΣΕΡΙΑ; and of aither, ΙΩΓΑΡΑΑ; and in the aither, ΘΩΠΥΛΕΟ ΔΑΡΔΥ. I glorify you, god of gods, the one who brought order to the universe, ΑΡΕΩ ΠΙΕΥΑ; the one who gathered together the abyss at the invisible foundation of its position, ΠΕΡΩ ΜΥΣΗΛ Ο ΠΕΝΤΩΝΑΞ; the one who separated heaven and earth and covered the heaven with eternal, golden wings, ΡΩΔΗΡΥ ΟΥΩΑ; the one who fixed the earth on eternal foundations, ΑΛΗΙΟΩΑ; the one who hung up the aither high above the earth, ΑΙΕ ΩΗ ΙΟΥΑ!

[1]O you almighty, immaculate, immortal and incomprehensible god of hosts, creator of all, who has spread the heavens above the height of the clouds, and established the waters upon the earth, and appointed the sea its bounds, which it may not pass or exceed, and has placed the sun, moon and stars above the air, in the firmament of the heavens, and who by your most excellent, sacred and divine wisdom, has placed all creatures, both celestial, aerial, terrestrial and infernal, to honour, obey and glorify you in their several and respective orders, offices and vocations; and made humans according to your own similitude; and has ordained the whole creation for your praise and glory, fortify me with your strength, protect me with your shield and shadow me under the cover of your celestial wings, that the envy, malice and severity of no person living, or any wicked spirit, may have power to assault, hurt, or do me any injury or prejudice, but that I may vanquish and overcome all my enemies, both private and public, visible and invisible, bodily and ghostly.

And I beseech you, O god of the aions, for you are great, lord, god, ruler of all,  ΑΡΧΙΖΩ ΝΥΟΝ ΘΗΝΑΡ ΜΕΘΩΡ ΠΑΡΥ ΦΗΖΩΡ ΘΑΠΣΑΜΥΔΩ ΜΑΡΩΜΙ ΧΗΛΩΠΣΑ, that you would by your divine permission, cause to appear that most celestial, glorious and powerful spirit[2] who is the principal governor and bearing imperial rule, power and dominion over the order of angels of[3], who shall inform, instruct, show forth and teach me those things as I shall ask and desire of him/her, and to be friendly to me, and do for me wherein its office is manifest, both now and at all times, whensoever my necessity shall require its aid and assistance. Which inestimable boon I beseech you, O god of the aions, for you are great, lord, god, ruler of all,  for you are I, and I are you and whatever I say must happen, for I have your name as a unique phylactery in my heart.

O you most celestial, glorious and powerful spirit[4] who is the principal governor and bearing imperial rule, power and dominion over the order of angels of[5],I call upon you, and most earnestly urge and entreat you in and through the divine, efficacious and incomprehensible name of the eternal and immense god, the creator of all, ΙΑΩΩΑΙ. Hereby I urgently desire you to appear and manifest yourself in this[6] and direct your energeia into this[7] and give it such power as required to fulfil[8]. Resolve for me what I shall ask of you, and to fulfil my request in whatsoever I desire, according to your office, or else to find, or to raise to come, an angel or spirit from your order, authorised to fulfil my desires and petitions, as aforesaid. Move therefore, and manifest in power and presence, open the mysteries of your creation, be friendly unto me, for your great, lord, god, ruler of all is my great, lord, god, ruler of all.

I call upon you, Kouretes and Erinyes

When marching to war you shall summon the Kouretes and they shall be your warcry and with bloodlust in their eyes beneath their Corinthian helmets, their naked bodies pure power as they dance clashing their swords upon their shields... when laying siege upon the enemy you shall summon the Erinyes and they shall spit curses at the profane and tear to shreds the writhing forms of those who oppose you. Behold these creatures of vengeance, their heads wreathed with serpents, their eyes dripping with blood whilst they fly frantically across the battlefield...

I, the Manifestation I Fear

For I have danced upon soaring mountains naked with the gods, I have confronted the infernal spirits of the abyss, I have survived the insane whispering of the legions that awaken at dusk, I have stared into the sun and I have made love to the moon... yet I fear only one manifestation of the cosmos... and that is me...

The Sexual Formula of the Sun and Moon

For I am the sun and she is the moon, for I know the signs and forms and I have howled the barbarous names in the astral wilderness... and the formula is the palindrome of sexual mysticism...

The Great Name

And in the Greek Magical Papyri the formula is... Hear me, because I am going to say the great name ΑΩΘ, before whom every god prostrates himself and every daimon shudders, for whom every angel completes those things which are assigned.

For you shall call upon the great name, for below the great name are the gods, angels, daimons, and spirits. This hierarchy is also the belief of the primordial world, where the manifold world of the pure forces of the cosmos are set out in hierachical emanations. Magic, being the raw expression of these forces when calling upon gods, daimons, angels and spirits, is to be commanded by the beauty, glory and dread of the great name.

And I howl in the wilderness... I call upon you great and mighty god, with command of your great name, you who lives for aions of aions, you who shakes together, you who thunders, you who has created every soul and race, hear my call in the wilderness ΙΑΩ ΑΩΙ ΩΙΑ ΑΙΩ ΙΩΑ ΩΑΙ!

Apuleius was just in his revelation of the magos... someone who, by conversing with the immortal gods, gains an incredible power of charms for everything he wishes.

Behold Aion, God amongst Gods

Behold Aion, god amongst gods, in that stiff hieratic pose, naked though his sexual mysticism is hidden from the eyes of the profane by the 7-fold serpent encoiled around the body of the god with the signs of the zodiac between its coils, for he fixes the course of Helios and is Chronos. 4 are his wings, 1 pair pointing upwards and 1 pointing downwards, for he is the ruler over the 4 winds and of the 4 seasons as Helios and Chronos. The head is the head of a lion with a fiery flowing mane and the mouth protruding the all-devouring teeth breathing tongues of flame. The hands of the god bear the fiery torches of muesis. Adore the dreaded visage that this god can alone evoke!

Eros and Myrrh

They call you myrrh, but I call you flesh-eater and inflamer of the heart... and I am sending you forth to Hellas, to Phrygia, to Babylon, to Persia, to Arabia and wherever else you desire to be...

The Call to the One who has Bound the Fiery Bars of the Fourfold Root

Recite,

Hear my call, for I am a star, wandering about with you and shining forth out of the deep, ΟΧΥ Ο ΞΕΡΘΕΥΘ. O walker upon fire, ΠΕΝΤΙΤΕΡΟΥΝΙ, encloser of all, ΣΕΜΕΣΙΛΑΜ, firebreather, ΨΥΡΙΝΦΕΥ, feeler of fire, ΙΑΩ, breather of light, ΩΑΙ, rejoicer in fire, ΕΛΟΥΡΕ, beautiful light, ΑΖΑΙ, Aion, ΑΧΒΑ, master of light, ΠΕΠΠΕΡ ΠΡΕΠΕΜΠΙΠΙ, body of fire, ΦΝΟΥΗΝΙΟΧ, giver of light, ΑΩΙ, sower of fire, ΑΡΕΙ ΕΙΚΙΤΑ, driver of fire, ΓΑΛΛΑΒΑΛΒΑ, forcer of light, ΑΙΩ, whirler of fire, ΠΥΡΙΧΙΒΟΟΣΗΙΑ, mover of light, ΣΑΝΧΕΡΩΒ, shaker of thunder, ΙΗ ΩΗ ΙΩΕΙΩ, light of glory, ΒΕΕΓΕΝΗΤΕ, increaser of light, ΣΟΥΣΙΝΕΦΙΕΝ, maintainer of the firelight, ΣΟΥΣΙΝΕΦΙ ΑΡΕΝΒΑΡΑΖΕΙ ΜΑΡΜΑΡΕΝΤΕΥ, star-tamer, ΩΙΑ.
